Le Salon du Livre de Paris (14 au 18 mars 2008) et la Foire du Livre de Turin (8 au 12 mai 2008) ont choisi Israël comme invité d’honneur afin de souligner son soixantième anniversaire suscitant une controverse et des appels au boycott. L’écrivain Pierre Assouline a réagi dans son blog à Tariq Ramadan qui, à son tour, a apporté dans son propre blog et dans le journal Le Monde plusieurs nuances aux propos qu’on lui a attribués.
