Ian Black, author of Enemies and Neighbors: Arabs and Jews in Palestine and Israel 1917-2017, will be the featured speaker at the Gelber Center, April 19, 2018 at 7.00 p.m. His topic: “Israelis and Palestinians: Contested Past, Uncertain Future.”

Former Middle East correspondent and senior editor at the Guardian newspaper, Dr Black’s writing has been characterized by insight, impartiality and professionalism. Working in both Hebrew and Arabic, he has reported on and analyzed historical events as they unfolded, speaking directly with policy-makers and those most keenly affected.

His latest book, Enemies and Neighbors, has received praise from reviewers on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as from leading Israelis and Palestinians, for accurately and empathetically presenting the conflict as it has been experienced by both parties. Veteran Israeli commentator Meron Benvenisti has hailed the book as “a tragic tale, full of blood, agony and missed opportunities, but [a] brilliant, dispassionate work [that] leaves us, curiously, optimistic.”

Ian Black’s lecture is sponsored by the Labour Zionist History Circle, Canadian Friends of Peace Now and Canadian Friends of Rabbis for Human Rights.
