A Free Public Conference on
Is Municipal Democracy Possible?
Can we really fight City Hall?
Inspired by the documentary “Citizen Jane, Battle for the City.”
By Guest Speaker
Former City Councillor, Sam Boskey
Sam Boskey was involved in Montreal’s municipal politics for almost 20 years. He was active in FRAP and later in the founding of the Montreal Citizens' Movement. He was elected to City Council in 1982 in the Décarie District of NDG and became a member of the MCM Party Executive. He lost his seat in 1998.
Sam Boskey will speak about the municipal changes in law and structures over the last 50 years and their effect on the participation and the nature of municipal politics; what voters in municipal elections need to know; how the most important urban decisions are never on City Council's agenda; and whom does urban development and economic development benefit? Come and learn how to fight City Hall and how to engage in participatory democracy, and bring your friends too.
