Canada. 13% Profit Margin in the Movie and Video industry

The motion picture and video exhibition industry generated operating revenue of $1.6 billion in 2014. Operating expenses were $1.4 billion, resulting in an operating profit margin of 13.0%.

Ontario (40.6%) accounted for the largest share of operating revenues in this industry, followed by Quebec (17.6%), Alberta (15.7%) and British Columbia (14.2%).

Total admission receipts (box office sales) were the main source of revenue for this industry at $902.4 million, followed by concession revenue (the sale of food and beverages) at $480.5 million.

Cinemas, including indoor theatres, drive-ins and film festivals, sold 91.0 million tickets (paid admissions) in 2014.
