New Yorkers Celebrate Chinese New Year

All week, a quarter of the world’s population is celebrating the Chinese New Year, which marks the start of the year on China's lunar calendar. In New York, the mayor declared a public school holiday to observe the occasion — a development in sharp contrast with how the Chinese-American community has been treated in the U.S. in the past.
