EU Launches Operation to Counter Human Traffickers

The European Union announced Monday it launched a naval operation targeting human traffickers and smugglers carrying migrants across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe. EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini told reporters in Luxembourg that the mission will first involve gathering information and patrolling international waters to try to detect and monitor smuggling networks.
