Former Washington Mayor Marion Barry Dies

Marion Barry, Jr., a sharecroppers’s son and a civil rights activist who became a maddening and beloved mayor of Washington, DC, has died. Barry was 78 years old when he died early Sunday morning in a Washington hospital, just hours after being discharged from another hospital. Barry was a few credits short of his doctorate degree in chemistry in the early 1960s when he decided to work full time in the civil rights movement. He was first elected Washington's mayor in 1978....
