Thailand: Let's go, Buffalo! Riders race it out in 100-metre sprint

Ever seen a water buffalo race? Hundreds of people gathered near Bangkok, Thailand to witness just that, at the Chonburi Buffalo Race. The highlight of the annual festival is a water buffalo race on the final two days, which sees racers test their water buffalo’s speed over a one hundred meter course. The first-place prizes of a trophy and cash go to the first nose to pass the finish line. Usually held before the October full moon, among the festival’s other events are a “most beautiful water buffalo” contest and parades. They may look goofy, but a water buffalo can run nearly 50 kilometers per hour. That’s faster than Usain Bolt, people. ___
