Chinese Uighur Scholar Gets Life in Prison for 'Separatism'

A Chinese court has sentenced a prominent ethnic Uighur scholar to life in prison after convicting him on separatism charges on Tuesday. That information came from the lawyer of Ilham Tohti, the economics professor who stood trial last week in the far-west region of Xinjiang. Tohti has been an outspoken critic of China's treatment of Uighurs in Xinjiang, where unrest has killed hundreds in recent months.
