Wasps Occupy A UK Home, Eat The Bed

Wasps are papermaking masters, able to transform multiple substances into the delicate material used to construct their elaborate nests. Wasps are papermaking masters, able to transform multiple substances into the delicate material used to construct their elaborate nests. While they usually target wood-based items, it seems bedding is not outside of their range. A homeowner in the UK found that out the hard way after discovering thousands of wasps had taken over a rarely used room and turned the bed into a nest. The insects chewed through about 8 inches of mattress and devoured a couple of pillows as well.Their resulting lair measured 3 feet across and was more than a foot deep.In general, you know an infestation situation is bad when people reference either the Bible or the Alfred Hitchcock film ‘The Birds’.The exterminator called in to take care of the problem likened the situation to both. It’s believed the wasps made their way in through an open window and had been occupying the space for around three months. When wasps build a nest they intend for it to be a multi-generational home. As time goes on, each new member of the community joins in the efforts to enlarge the colony’s abode until winter weather damages the structure beyond repair.
