Texas orders border security surge

Texas leaders announced a law enforcement surge on the Texas-Mexico border Wednesday. As the federal government struggles to cope with the influx of unaccompanied child migrants -- some 47,000 since October 2013 -- they fear criminals and gangs could slip through the cracks. Speaking in Washington, Texas Senator John Cornyn. SOUNDBITE (English) REPUBLICAN SENATOR FROM TEXAS, JOHN CORNYN, SAYING: "Unless we send a clear, unambiguous message that our border is secure and our immigration laws are being enforced, we can expect more and more Central American migrants." The extra security will cost about 1.3 million dollars per week. Bill Holston is the Executive Director of the Human Rights Initiative in Dallas. His organization helps unaccompanied child migrants obtain legal status in the U.S. He's helped 45 children this year -- double the number of all of last year.
