Clashes go into the night in Turkey

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Hundreds of protesters threw stones and fireworks at police in several districts of Istanbul on Friday night after two people died in clashes in the working-class district of Okmeydani. The clashes have stirred fears of further unrest as the anniversary of last year's anti-government demonstration approaches. Police fired rubber pellets and smoke grenades to disperse protesters letting off fireworks in Okmeydani district as thousands flocked to the streets for the funeral of Ugur Kurt, a bystander Ugur Kurt who was attending a relative's funeral, was shot in the head apparently by a stray bullet on Thursday as the violence flared. His death in hospital overnight triggered renewed clashes in which a second person, as yet unidentified, was killed by a home-made grenade.
