Fury grows over Turkey mine disaster

PLEASE NOTE EDIT CONTAINS MATERIAL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3 Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan is the target of residents' anger in the town where a mine fire has killed 283 people. About 100 more are feared to be trapped underground at the pit near the town of Soma. The hostility is down to the government's perceived cosiness with mining tycoons. Also its failure to ensure safety and a lack of information on the rescue effort. Turkey suffers from one of the world's worst records on workplace safety. The Soma mine disaster is the country's deadliest industrial accident yet. Erdogan has expressed regret for the disaster. But he's said such accidents weren't uncommon and turned defensive when he was asked if there's been proper precautions in place. Public anger's been fuelled further by these photographs doing the rounds on social media. The pictures appear to show one of Erdogan's aides kicking a protester as he was detained
