California wildfires force thousands to flee

Crews are working nonstop to battle a series of wildfires raging in Southern California that have scorched nearly 10,000 acres. Whipped by the wind and in the face of soaring temperatures, flames sweep over parched land close to homes and roads in at least nine fires and black smoke fills the sky. Crews are battling to save houses and marine helicopters from Camp Pendleton have been dispatched to fight the blaze. At this point no major injuries have been reported. One of the biggest threats is in the city of San Marcos where evacuation notices have been issued for thousands of residents and students at a California State University campus. California Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency to free up resources.
