Rescuers struggle to reach Afghan landslide scene

PLEASE NOTE: EDIT CONTAINS MATERIAL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3 PLEASE NOTE: QUALITY AS INCOMING Local police are doing what they can for the survivors of the massive landslide in northern Afghanistan. They're handing out water and food to villagers in Badakhshan. On Saturday morning rescue teams were still struggling to reach the remote region. Roads to the village are open but said to be unsuitable for heavy machinery. The United Nations is putting the number of dead at 350 at least. More than 2, 000 others are missing. Afghan officials say there's little hope of finding anyone alive beneath the huge mountain of mud. The landslide hit as villagers were trying to recover their belongings and livestock after a smaller one a few hours earlier. The U.N. says NATO-led and Afghan forces are discussing what they might be able to contribute to the search and rescue effort.
