Violent clashes in Peru

--Quality as incoming -- ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Violent clashes broke out between police officers and squatters in northern Peru on Wednesday (April 16) as authorities forcibly dislodged locals suspected of squatting on public land, amidst rising tensions over land rights in the largely rural area. Suspected squatters brandished machetes as police moved in to clear land belonging to the Agriculture Ministry. Police responded with tear gas as they sought to disperse violent protesters. According to local media, the suspected squatters began occupying the public land some two months ago when it was left abandoned. But a local court ordered police to move in and clear the site.
