Injectable Oxygen Particle Helps People Survive Without Breathing

Most organic life on our planet requires oxygen to survive, and in many medical emergencies patients struggle to recover because of a lack of oxygen.Researchers from Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston might have come up with an effective way to inject oxygen directly into the bloodstream. This new medical treatment would make it possible for a person to survive without having to breathe air into their lungs. Injecting any kind of gas directly into the bloodstream causes an embolism or bubble that can be fatal, but the researchers have come up with a kind of foam that releases oxygen using micro particles. Cardiologist John Kheir who worked on the study said: "It's a foam a lot like shaving cream. The purpose is to carry oxygen gas in an injectable way. This would help us stabilize patients for a few minutes, and that could be immensely valuable." Results from the study have shown that around 70 percent of the oxygen from the foam is successfully introduced into the bloodstream. They have only tested it on rabbits with blocked windpipes, and all but one of the bunnies were reportedly able to stay alive for up to 15 minutes without breathing.
