8.2 Earthquake Hits Northern Chile

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.2 has struck off the northern coast of Chile. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck 99 kilometers northwest of the city of Iquique Tuesday evening. Chilean authorities said waves measuring about two meters were striking cities along the coast. No damage assessment has been made at this time.
