Jolie, Hague open conference on wartime sexual violence in Bosnia

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) American actress Angelina Jolie and British Foreign Minister William Hague on Friday (March 28) opened a conference in the Bosnian capital addressing the use of sexual violence in conflicts. Jolie and Hague, who are scheduled to co-host a summit on raising awareness of wartime sexual violence in London in June, attended the conference on preventing such crimes organised by Bosnia and Herzegovina's ministry of defence. Jolie's 2011 directorial debut, "In the Land of Blood and Honey", dealt with the topics of war crimes and sexual violence against women during the war in Bosnia, and featured several actors from the region. "The use of rape as a weapon of war is one of the most harrowing and savage of these crimes against civilians. This is rape so brutal with such extreme violence that it is even hard to talk about it. It often involves gang-rape, torture and mutilation. It is carried out in the presence of the relatives in order
