LA Officers Save Life of Unresponsive Baby

Two Los Angeles police officers are credited with saving the life of a baby boy. Los Angeles police officers are credited with saving the life of a baby boy. On a recent Saturday afternoon, the two cops were on patrol when they noticed a car driving erratically in South L.A. The child’s mother had been operating the vehicle at the time and she was desperately trying to attract the attention of the officers. Once the lady, Charmaine Gooden was able to speak with the police, she told them her 17-month-old son named Javon Stevenson suddenly stopped breathing. Officers Johnny Han and Andrew Cardenas both jumped out of the patrol car and sprang into action. While Han worked to get an ambulance to the scene, Cardenas responded to the small child and gave him one chest compression.Amazingly, the single compression saved his life. Javon started taking shallow breaths and latched onto the officer’s finger. While waiting for EMTs, Cardenas did his best to keep the baby calm and track his breathing. Paramedics soon arrived and transported Javon to the hospital. The doctor responsible for treating the baby said he suffered from an ‘acute life-threatening event’. Javon spent three nights being monitored and treated in the hospital before he was permitted to return home. Right after his release, Charmaine met with the two officers once again to thank them for their heroic actions.
