Violence erupts during Caracas protests

Protesters battle riot police in the streets of Caracas on Wednesday. With 3 more fatal shootings in Venezuela, the death toll from a month of demonstrations is raised to 25. While addressing supporters, President Nicolas Maduro spoke of a young man, killed by snipers in central Carabobo state: (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) VENEZUELAN PRESIDENT NICOLAS MADURO, SAYING: "Some protesters put barricades there and stoking the fire they were killed by snipers, a youth from one of these right wing groups, they shot him there and killed him." But opposition activists blame armed government supporters for shooting the student. Rival rallies across the country -- for, and against Maduro -- marked one month since the bloodshed began. Violence broke out in Caracas when National Guard troops blocked opposition marchers from leaving Plaza Venezuela to head to the state ombudsman's office. Reuters witnesses saw dozens of people leaving injured.
