House Republicans are unveiling a massive plan to overhaul the nation's tax system. Just a few hours before the plan was to be unveiled, House Speaker John Boehner distanced himself from the details. Dave Camp, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, was scheduled to unveil the plan Wednesday afternoon. The plan would lower the top income tax rate from 39.6 percent to 25 percent. When asked whether the Republican Party stood behind Camp's plan, Boehner said, quote, "You're getting a little bit ahead of yourself." The United States has an obligation to pursue nuclear negotiations with Iran before it considers going to war with Tehran to force it to give up its nuclear activities, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Wednesday. Kerry explained "We took the initiative and led the effort to try to figure out if before we go to war there actually might be a peaceful solution." Iran reached a landmark preliminary agreement with six world powers, including the United States, in November to halt its most sensitive nuclear operations, winning some relief from economic sanctions in return. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a drill to test the combat readiness of his armed forces, the country's defense minister said Wednesday. The display of military might comes amid tensions with the European Union and the United States over the fate of Ukraine following the fall of its Moscow-backed President Viktor Yanukovych. Ukraine finds itself at the center of a tug-of-war between Russia and the European Union but Secretary of State John Kerry has insisted the country's future is not about “east versus west.” Election opinion polls conducted by media should be properly authenticated, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said Wednesday, a day after a Hindi television news channel carried out a sting operation that indicated a political conspiracy to manipulate public opinion. Kejriwal said the sting operation, if assumed to be authentic, represents a dark hour for the Indian media. "It shows that political parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party have been paying to manipulate public opinion," the Aam Aadmi Party leader said.
