Italy PM Letta arrives at presidential palace to tender resignation

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta arrived at the country's presidential palace on Friday to tender his resignation. Letta formally handed in his resignation to President Giorgio Napolitano in the afternoon and the round of consultations leading to the appointment of a successor are expected to take a few days more. Meanwhile, Italian center-left leader, the 39-year-old Matteo Renzi is already set to take power. As Italy's youngest-ever prime minister and the third in succession to be appointed without winning an election he faces intense pressure to produce results. The 39-year-old mayor of Florence has never hidden his ambition to lead Italy, but until this week it was assumed that he planned to do so by winning an election, not by a political maneuver that polls say most Italians disapprove of.
