Dutch engineers help with UK floods

A team of Dutch engineers was at work in the flood-stricken English village of Burrowbridge on Monday (February 10) to drain water as the flood crisis showed no signs of abating. Drainage equipment and massive pumps were brought in from the Netherlands to England's southwestern County Somerset to help with relief work. A former National Rivers Authority manager Pete Rossiter explained that the pumps will help to drain the water that currently has nowhere to go. Fourteen severe flood warnings, meaning there is danger to life, are in place in the counties of Berkshire and Surrey, while two remain in Somerset. A 94-year-old woman was evacuated from her home in Wraysbury in Berkshire, after properties were flooded in the area. Thousands of homes along the River Thames are threatened with flooding as flood waters continue to rise. Weather forecasters expect more heavy rain in the UK on Tuesday.
