Oscars luncheon; weekend box office

The Oscar nominees luncheon is a chance each year for everyone to be a winner, despite who goes home with the film industry's most sought after trophy on March 2nd. Rubbing elbows at the annual event, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Monday (February 10), were most of the acting nominees, including Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Matthew McConaughey and Leonardo DiCaprio, among others. Checking in at the weekend box office, "The LEGO Movie," an animated film based on the colorful plastic children's blocks, snapped up more than 69 million dollars (USD) in ticket sales to top the charts, easily beating the George Clooney World War Two film "The Monuments Men." "The Monuments Men," which also stars Matt Damon, Bill Murray and John Goodman, was second with 22.7 million in sales at U.S. and Canadian theaters.
