One dead in Bangladesh slum fire

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: A child was burnt to death as a devastating fire swept through a rickshaw garage and later engulfed adjacent shanties in Dhaka, early on Saturday (February 8) morning. Residents in the Moghbazar area said they tried to save their belongings as the flames spread, but many escaped with just their lives. Fire fighters rushed to the scene and were helped by residents to put out the fire which reduced nearly 100 houses to ashes. Authorities said the fire which engulfed parts of the Moghbazar area was finally brought under control an hour after it started. They added the body of a child was found in one of the shanties. Local media said the family of the dead and those who lost their homes would be given compensation money. Investigations were underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
