Stocks Open Higher Ahead Of Data Reports

Stocks rose on Wall Street on Monday, ahead of services sector and factory goods data that could provide clues on the momentum in economic growth at the start of the new year. In early trading, the S&P 500's stock index was up 5.4 points or 0.3 percent, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 56 points or 0.34 percent, and the Nasdaq added 5.6 points or 0.14 percent. Service industry growth slowed sharply in China in December but picked up across most of Europe, suggesting that an uneven global economic performance persisted even as most signs pointed to a strengthening revival in the United States.
