Skiers offer sympathy as Schumacher fights for life

The French alpine resort town of Meribel. It was here that Formula One champion Michael Schumacher had a skiing accident on Monday. It left the 44-year-old German fighting for his life. Skiers reacted to the news with a mixture of shock and sadness. (SOUNDBITE) (English) BRITISH TOURIST RICHARD FISH SAYING: "I was surprised. I mean he went off with a guide so the guide normally knows the area well. I was off-piste yesterday and it's just sheer luck whether you hit a rock or not and I hear that's what he did." (SOUNDBITE) (French) SKIER LAURENT MARNIER SAYING: "I am a big Formula One fan and when I learned that Schumacher, a seven time world champion, had this accident of course it was shocking. We heard the news and I hope he will overcome this. He is somewhat our icon in that sport." Schumacher, who retired from Ferari in 2006, remains in critical condition at this Grenoble hospital following emergency brain surgery. (SOUNDBITE) (E
