Snowden releases Christmas video to push for more debate

Former U.S. National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden breaking his silence. In an "alternative" Christmas message broadcast in the UK, Snowden warns that everyone's privacy is at stake. (SOUNDBITE) (English) EDWARD SNOWDEN, SAYING: "A child born today will grow up with no conception of privacy at all. They'll never know what it means to have a private moment to themselves, an unrecorded, unanalyzed thought." Snowden became an international figure in June when he revealed that the U.S. was conducting mass electronic surveillance both domestically and abroad. His leaks have prompted major discussions on the balance between national security and civil liberties in the digital age. His video comes after a U.S. District court judge recently ruled the collection of Americans' phone records was likely unlawful. On Tuesday, Snowden told The Washington Post that he "already won" in his mission to give society a chance to debate the issue.
