Haiti Protesters Demand Higher Minimum Wage

Hundreds of protesters have taken to the streets of Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, to demand an increase in their wages.    Factory workers say the government's recommendation to raise the minimum wage from $4.54 to $5.11 for an eight-hour work day, an increase of 13 percent, is insufficient.   Workers, carrying tree branches as a symbol of grassroots solidarity, are demanding twice that amount.
