Police Hold Off Protesters Determined to Topple Thai Government

As Monday dawned in the Thai capital of Bangkok, government forces and anti-government demonstrators were still locked in a tense standoff outside Government House and the Metropolitan Police headquarters. The protesters had set Sunday as "Victory Day" to topple the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, but failed to achieve their goal of seizing the prime minister's office at Government House or occupying state buildings.
