The island was created by an erupting undersea volcano filmed by the Japanese coast guard. (SOUNDBITE)(Japanese) JAPANESE CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY YOSHIHIDE SUGA SAYING: "In the past there have been such instances but those islands caused by an undersea volcano then sank again so we'll be watching to see what happens." If the new arrival survives it'll join Japan's estimated 6, 000 islands. It would technically be part of Tokyo even though it's more than 1, 000 kilometres away.
