Assad: No date set yet for peace conference

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says no date has been set for an international conference on ending his country's civil war. In an interview with Lebanese channel Al Mayadeen TV he said a date has "not been officially set," for the so-called Geneva 2 talks. With Western and Arab countries hoping the talks could start a political transition that would see him leave office, Assad says he has no plans to quit, saying he might run for re-election in 2014. The head of the Arab League said Sunday that the Geneva 2, was scheduled for Nov. 23. The conflict in Syria began more than two years ago with peaceful protests. It has since descended into a civil war killing more than 100,000 people.
