New York man charged with trying to join al Qaeda

U.S. officials arrest a twenty-five-year-old New York man and charge him with trying to travel to Yemen to join al Qaeda. Marcos Alonso Zea pleaded not guilty to charges that he sought to join and provide aid to the group, which the U.S. regards as one of the most active wings of the militant network. He allegedly tried to destroy his computers when he learned he was under investigation. Zea was also charged with attempting to give money to al Qaeda affiliates, and conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country. His parents denied he was involved in any terror plot. Federal prosecutors said Zea was arrested at his home in Brentwood, New York, 50 miles (80 km) east of Manhattan.
