Canadian U.N. worker freed in Syria after eight months

A Canadian man reportedly held for eight months by rebels in Syria is now free. Video from Syrian state TV shows Carl Campeau, a legal adviser to the U.N. Disengagement Observer Force, speaking with the Syrian Foreign Ministry. Campeau disappeared in February while working in the Golan Heights. State media did not clarify how Campeau's release was secured. The UNDOF has about 1,000 peacekeepers and civilian staff in the area. The agency has been monitoring the ceasefire zone since 1974. Recent threats from Syria's two-and-a-half-year civil war have forced participating countries to pull out some of their peacekeepers.
