House Republicans pushed the government to the edge of a partial shutdown next week, insisting that President Barack Obama's health care law be delayed a year in defiance of White House and the Democratic-controlled Senate.They rejected a Senate bill that would keep the government operating another 45 days and make no changes to the health law. Instead, House Republicans prepared to pass their own version and throw the issue back to the Senate, which is not scheduled to return until 10 hours before the shutdown deadline. Iran's rivals worry about its sincerity, and fear that President Obama's desire for a diplomatic deal will only buy Iran time to continue its march toward building a nuclear weapon. More than two weeks after NYC?s primary for mayor, election officials have finished counting votes, and Democrat Bill de Blasio has officially avoided a runoff by about 5,600 votes. Mr. de Blasio finished with 40.81 percent in the primary, which was held Sept. 10, barely exceeding the 40 percent runoff threshold. Google, Facebook and other American technology companies were put on the defensive when Edward Snowden?s allegations about U.S.-government surveillance of Internet traffic emerged this spring. Some companies are now looking outside the U.S. for havens where authorities won?t easily be able to pry.
