Five injured in Alexandria clashes

At least five people were injured in Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria on Friday (September 17) when supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi clashed with local residents. Health officials said that one of the injured was hit by birdshot and another suffered a gunshot wound. The violence erupted during a march by several hundred Mursi supporters in the city. A major crackdown on Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood began in mid-August following his ouster in July. Since then his supporters have carried out sporadic demonstrations across the country to denounce what they call the 'coup' that unseated him, and to call for his return. Small protests by Mursi supporters took place in several cities across Egypt today, with minor clashes breaking out at several of them. A Cairo court on Monday (September 23) banned the Brotherhood and ordered its funds seized, further restricting the movement of the group that won a majority in Egypt's parliament following
