A Texas appeals court overturned the 2010 convictions of former House of Representatives Majority Leader Tom DeLay for money laundering and conspiracy, citing "insufficient evidence." Dubbed "the Hammer" for his hard-driving and partisan style, DeLay had been accused of conspiring to illegally funnel $190,000 in corporate campaign donations to Republican candidates for the Texas Legislature in the 2002 elections. Russian President Vladimir Putin says he could run for a fourth presidential term in 2018. If he serves four terms, that would keep him in power for about a quarter century and make him the nation's longest-serving leader since Josef Stalin. Senator Ted Cruz didn't have much to say in response to House Republicans fuming at him for conceding that the Democrat-controlled Senate doesn't have the votes to repeal Obamacare and leaving the battle -- and all its political perils -- for House conservatives to fight. Caroline Kennedy faced a friendly U.S. Senate confirmation hearing on her nomination as President Barack Obama's next ambassador to Japan, amid memories of her father, the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy, and uncles who served in the chamber.
