"Wizard of Oz" celebrates 75th anniversary

EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS MATERIAL WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3 Seventy five years after Dorothy crash-landed in Munchkinland, the 1939 classic film "The Wizard of Oz" had an updated premiere in Hollywood on Sunday (Sept. 15). A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the renovated TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX, featuring an IMAX 3D version screening of the film, which made its original debut at the movie house. The film has grown in the estimation of movie-lovers and critics since it first debuted in theaters. Reviews were strong, but initially the movie failed to recoup its production budget, grossing slightly more than 3 million dollars (USD), but costing 2 million to produce. Fans of "The Wizard of Oz" will be able to see those ruby red slippers and the iconic yellow brick road for a one-week engagement in U.S. theaters on Sept. 20.
