The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences said they began phasing out the increasingly unpopular practice when they opened a new facility in 2000.As its name implies, The National Capital Area Medical Simulation Center uses new simulation technologies to train its students in both physiology and surgical practices.In the past, pigs and ferrets were among the animals used to teach procedures from infant tube insertion to those involving cutting into the abdomen and organs. Reportedly, the pigs were killed following the training procedures.
