Japanese sci-fi animation blasts off in Venice

Japanese super animation "Harlock: Space Pirate" received its world premiere at the Venice film festival on September the third. The film is the labour of love from Japan's top animators and CG specialists who have spent five years toiling on the movie. It centres on the "antihero rebel" Captain Harlock, the last man standing in the way of the corrupt Gaia Coalition who seek intergalactic dominance. Harlock then seeks revenge against those who have wronged both himself and all of mankind. The film is brought to the big screen by one of the country's most experienced CG animation directors, Shinji Aramaki, and features the voice of Japanese pop star Haruma Miura. "Harlock" sets sail in Japan on September 7th.
