Leaky plant will be fixed in time for Olympics-Abe

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sought to ease concerns over whether the leaking Fukushima nuclear power plant would affect the 2020 Summer Olympic games, should Tokyo be chosen to host them. (SOUNDBITE)(Japanese) JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER SHINZO ABE SAYING: "We understand that there have been people voicing concerns over the contaminated water issue in Fukushima. What I can say is the government is taking the lead here to completely solve the issue. And to do that we are implementing drastic measures with firm resolve. I will be explaining (to the International Olympic Committee) that in seven years time, in 2020, it will not be a problem at all." Wednesday, the Nuclear Regulation Authority said readings around tanks holding contaminated water spiked by more than a fifth to their highest levels yet. Readings taken last weekend were already high enough to kill an unprotected person within hours. The nuclear power plant is about 180 miles outside Tokyo.
