Rare Birds Grown in Chicken Eggs

Scientists from the Dubai's Central Veterinary Research Laboratory have managed to hatch rare birds out of chicken eggs.It's the most basic rule in nature - a chicken egg will hatch a chicken.But remarkably, scientists from the Dubai's Central Veterinary Research Laboratory have managed to hatch rare birds out of chicken eggs. The babies are of the houbara bustard variety, a type that’s been declining in numbers around the Persian Gulf due to overhunting and habitat loss. To accomplish the feat, the researchers transplanted the fertilized yolks of houbara eggs into the whites of surrogate chicken eggs as well as other houbara eggs.After four days, almost 80 percent of the chicken eggs and just over 60 percent of the houbara eggs remained viable. At that point the surviving specimens including the egg whites and yolks, were moved to larger chicken eggs, providing them with more room to expand.Finally, three little houbaras were hatched.
