Paulo Henrique Machado has lived in a hospital for the entirety of his 45-year life. Following his birth, shortly after which his mother died, he was rendered almost completely paralyzed by polio. Over the years he’s become an expert computer animator and is currently working on creating a television series. The animated show will be based on a book written by his lifelong friend and roommate, Eliana, about their unique experiences and challenges over the years. Even though they’re continuously hospitalized, Paulo said that medical advances have afforded him and Eliana at least 50 outings, one of which was a particularly memorable trip to a beach.
