Nothing sacred in the battle for control in Syria

The sound of gunfire in an empty room as rebel fighters use a destroyed home to wage war in Homs. The city has been at the center of a pitched battle for more than a week. President Bashar al-Assad's forces are using every weapon they have in an effort to drive a wedge between opposition-held areas. The footage which can not be independently verified by Reuters appears rubble lining the inside of a century old shrine, -- another legacy of a fight where what was once sacred has become part of the front line. Along the Damascus to Homs highway tanks become part of the traffic amid the relentless sound of war. In the suburbs of the Capital City a rebel fighter takes aim at a government tank in a conflict that began with peaceful demonstrations more than two years ago. In another suburb, the remains of war line the streets in a fight that has already claimed at least 100,000 lives.
