Flooding and landslides leave dozens dead in China

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION). Landslides and flooding triggered by severe weather conditions left at least 34 people dead and 12 missing, according to state media reports on Monday (July 1). China's state Xinhua news agency cited the Ministry of Civil Affairs saying that 18 deaths had been reported with 4 missing since Saturday (June 29) in north China's Inner Mongolia after rainstorm and hail plummeted on the region. The ministry also reported sixteen deaths from other parts of China, Xinhua said. China's state broadcaster CCTV carried footage showing local houses and vehicles submerged in floodwaters and firefighters attempting to rescue trapped people. The National Meteorological Center (NMC) said heavy rain will continue to hit parts of north and southwest China over the next three days and issued a high alerts for rainstorms on Monday, Xinhua said.
