Obama says FBI nominee Comey will balance privacy, security

President Barack Obama nominated Jim Comey on Friday to be his next director of the FBI. The former Justice Department official has deep experience in the battle against terrorism. In nominating him, Obama said Comey will help strike a balance between the need for information on terror plots -- and respecting the privacy of Americans. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING: "It is in large part, not only because of my confidence, not only in his experience and his skills but in his integrity, that I'm confident that Jim will be a leader who understand how to keep America safe and stay true to our founding ideals, no matter what the future may bring." Comey, a Republican, gained notoriety in 2004 when he famously refused to certify certain aspects of National Security Agency domestic surveillance. The controversial surveillance program resurfaced this month, after disclosures about it by former government contractor Edward Snowden.
