Anti-G8 protest ahead of summit

Anti-G8 demonstrators march through central Belfast on Monday carrying red flags and anti-G8 placards, as world leaders gathered in Northern Ireland for the start of a Group of Eight summit. Amid tight security, riot police were quick to intervene in the flash protest and escort a handful of demonstors away from the scene. Meanwhile, politicians such as French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta, arrive in Belfast ahead of the summit. The ongoing conflict in Syria is expected to be high on the agenda. In anticipation of talks, the non-governmental organisation Oxfam staged a stunt in front of Belfast's City Hall urging G8 leaders to agree on a solution to stop the Syrian civil war. Flowers were laid next to rows of white gravestones with inscriptions reading: "93,000 Lives Lost In Syria".
