Car bomb kills three in Iraq

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) A powerful blast killed at least three people and wounded 28 others on Monday (June 10) in the northern city of Tuz Khurmato said police, in worsening unrest that has heightened fears of a return to sectarian civil war. No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but officials blame most of the violence that has killed nearly 2,000 people since April on Sunni Islamist insurgents linked to al Qaeda's local wing. Security forces and locals could be seen gathered at the site of the car bomb attack outside a popular cafe in Tuz Khurmato, southeast of Kirkuk. Shop fronts were destroyed by the force of the blast and several vehicles were left scorched on the sides of the road. Growing violence has accompanied rising political tensions between Iraq's majority Shi'ite leaders and the Sunni community, who believe they have been marginalized since the fall of Saddam Hussein after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
