Red Cross to curtail Afghanistan efforts

Hundreds of disabled Afghans gathered on Sunday to protest the closure of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Jalalabad. The Red Cross announced plans to curtail operations in Afghanistan following last week's fatal attack on their Jalalabad compound. An Afghan guard was shot dead and three people, including one international staff member, were wounded as a group of suicide bombers and gunmen went on a rampage, shooting and throwing grenades. (SOUNDBITE) (English) COMMUNICATION COORDINATOR FOR THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS (ICRC), ROBIN WAUDO SAYING: "Following this attack last Wednesday in our office in Jalalabad, we are going to take some measures that affect the operations. First and foremost, we need to remove some of the international staff from the country for security concerns. This will obviously affect to the operations; so we have to put some activities on hold."
